THINK about interdependence:
 |
“...we have all discovered for ourselves and the world that we are one, and that the heart of humanity beats the same ...” |
 |
“Through Project Happiness, we have all discovered for ourselves and the world that we are one, and that the heart of humanity beats the same and that we are all “interdependently connected”. Whether we are white or colored, whether we are religious or not, whether we live in Nigeria or the US or India or Tibet, what really matters is how we live ourselves and positively affect and transform others as a consequence.”
—EMMANUEL (Nigerian teacher) |
| |
| |
“We are doing everything to be happy, like educating ourselves so that we have a job in the future and enough money to survive in this world. Isn’t this too narrow a path for happiness? Can't we be sharing our goodness and kindness with others so we can spread more happiness and try to be a source of happiness to others?”
—YONTEN (Tibetan)
|
| |
| |
"There is short-term happiness, which we can call pleasure, and then there is long-term happiness, which we can call joy. Short-term happiness, which is pleasure, is self-centered. It’s all about getting something...But joy is different. Joy really has to do with taking care of other people and doing things for others rather than for yourself."
—GEORGE LUCAS (Filmmaker) |
| |
| |
“Our happiness is dependent on the happiness of others, and so the only way we can be happy is if others are as well. In this way, we can still serve ourselves while serving others. If we take action to make others happy, even if that action does not in itself provide us with happiness, the happiness we caused in those others will ultimately make us happy.”
—JONJI (American)
|
| |
| |
“It is a dream come true for me to meet people from different countries and share our responsibility to promote world peace and harmony.”
—DORJI (Tibetan) |

We can also look at the nature of interdependence as something that is part of the human experience, whether its within our bodies (how each of our systems depend on each other), in the natural environment (how pollution effects our world) or in our relationships with other people (how my choices impact others). When we see the chain of interdependence in all aspects of our lives and how everything is connected, we start viewing our lives from a totally new perspective
an empowering one.
Think of it this way:
- No thing or event came into being by itself, nor can it remain by itself.
- The whole exists because of its parts and how each part relates to the others
(Example: the human body).
- Everything is related to or dependent on something else.
When we try to pick out anything by itself,
we find it hitched to everything else in the Universe.
